“Adaptive cycling” means modifying existing products to meet individual physical challenges.  Below are some pictures of some specific adaptations we have made to meet our customers’ needs.

Physically Challenged Riders and/or Riders with Disabilities:

I have learned and continue to learn an incredible amount about modifying trikes in order to enable people with physical challenges to find solutions in order that they can ride trikes.  The solutions are sometimes strangely illogical but intuitive; for example, two of my customers have real difficulty pedaling around the “dead spot” (a place in the pedaling circle where the energy “dies”); and the solutions were very different for each of them.  One needed to be almost completely upright; the other needed to be almost completely recumbent - pedal-to-seat height was very critical, as was crank length, gear ratio and very exacting seat-to-pedal distance.

B.O.R.P. - The Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program - is an adaptive cycling program I volunteer at in Berkeley California, located at Berkeley’s Aquatic Park.

Able-bodied Riders:

I have used my experience to extrapolate to the able bodied: If it doesn’t fit right, you are uncomfortable in the long run and won’t ride.  I ONLY sell trikes that are adjustable.

I want people to at least sit in a few different trikes to see what works best for them.

If it is fun and easy to do, we do it; if not, we don’t!

My customers get out and ride!
